Lenovo 500s Motherboard replacement

Lenovo 500sLenovo 500s 4

Today i serviced a Lenovo 500s laptop that wasnt turning on or charging. I first test charger using on another computer and it was charging fine. Performed battery reset by removing battery and charger for then pushing and holding power for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. then connected charger only then tried to power on, but still no response. Next checked to be sure that charger was making proper connection to DC Jack and it was tight fit.

At this point laptop needs to be disassembled to test power to main board. (Board will be replaced)

First start by removing charger and battery to prevent shorting or shock.

Next remove 3 screws at bottom that hold back cover on. Lenovo 500s 6Next remove Hard Drive by removing 2 screws, then slide out of dock.Lenovo 500s 7After removing all screws (including the 2  holding the fan) turn laptop over then remove keyboard.  Lenovo 500s 9To remove keyboard, use thin pry tool (at the top) and slowly releasing section of keyboard from left to right and remove ribbon. Lenovo 500s 10Remove all connectors then with pry tool separate palm rest from bottom casing.  Lenovo 500s 11Next remove all connectors once again then screws from board, then remove.

NEW MOTHERBOARD PREP:

Remove fan and heat sink then clean. If your new board doesnt come with processor remove also. Acer VA70 Repair

Today in shop I was able to service an ACER VA70 Laptop computer. Laptop was brought to me because the dc jack was pushed back preventing proper charger contact. At first sight there looks to be nothing wrong but when you connect charger you can feel it being too loose. ACER VA70_9I will give you a brief over view of how to disassemble to get to dc jack.

First be sure to remove charger and battery before attempting to open any laptop.

ACER VA70_10Remove Hard Disk Drive (to be safe)

Once all screws removed flip laptop over and carefully open Laptop to access keyboard. Be careful because the palm rest is in 2 parts.  The lower part lifts up and is connected with a small ribbon. ACER VA70_6Once removed there is one screw holding keyboard in place. Remove screw then keyboard can be removed. ACER VA70_4

ACER VA70_5

ACER VA70

ACER VA70_1In this case the bottom casing was damaged preventing dc jack to stay in place, so bottom casing needed to be replaced. Of course there is more to disassemble to get to the board, but i would recommend bringing your device in to be looked at by a tech to prevent motherboard damage.
